International Legal Jobs in Private Practice

Filling offshore and international legal jobs requires a particular blend of knowledge and experience. Garfield Robbins has been a market leader in recruiting and relocating lawyers internationally for nearly 20 years. Top ranking International law firms, whether based in the Middle East, Offshore, Asia, Australia or New Zealand, offer a range of international legal vacancies for qualified lawyers or solicitors at all levels, from newly qualified, to mid level and senior assistants, to partners. At each level our clients are seeking individuals who are eager to gain, or who already have, legal experience at an international level.

The core jurisdictions we recruit into include:

• Middle East (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain)

Current Recruitment Market: Despite slowdown in Dubai, the other Middle Eastern economies remain strong with continuing investment in their infrastructure and ambitious growth plans. Abu Dhabi and Doha are quite buoyant while Saudi Arabia and other regional countries are opening up to new opportunities. The influence of the energy sector remains very strong, while projects/infrastructure, construction, IT/telecoms, Islamic finance and, to a lesser extent corporate/funds are busy, and we are also seeing more activity than previously in the litigation/arbitration area.

• Offshore (Jersey, Guernsey, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands)

Current Recruitment Market: Lawyers specialising in the areas of banking and finance, corporate finance, funds and trusts will generally find their skills in demand, although there has been a significant slowdown in terms of transactional recruitment for both the Channel Islands and Caribbean due to the current market.  There is a strong demand for talented litigators in the Caribbean, particularly those with insolvency litigation experience.

• Southeast Asia (Hong Kong and Singapore)

Current Recruitment Market: Lawyers specialising in all commercial practice areas will be marketable in the Hong Kong and Singapore, however there has been a significant slowdown in legal recruitment due to the current market, particularly in the transactional areas.  There is strong demand for litigators, particularly shipping litigators, in Singapore at present.

• Australia / New Zealand

Current Recruitment Market: Lawyers specialising in any of the key practice areas (banking and finance; corporate/commercial; energy/resources/projects; construction; IP/IT/telecoms and to a lesser extent commercial litigation) will usually find their skills in demand, however there has been a significant slowdown in recruitment due to the current market.
